First time using the app and got the following error.

Same problem here, I just installed from F-droid. Issue happens in both Android 15 (OnePlus Pad 2) and 16 (OnePlus 13) with stock ROM.

Can there be a nicer error message with actionable troubleshooting steps?

"The backend is having an intermittent issue. Please try again later."

I encountered the issue too, on a first install/launch of the application, so no welcome screen passed.
I don't think a backend is necessary to be able to pass the welcome screen, so maybe it could be shown to the user anyway?

And I agree with the previous poster: a clean error message such as "unreachable backend server" would help the users understand what's happening/what's going on.
