Exceeding Premium Request Allowance

Hi everyone,

I am a university student that has been using the Github copilot for learning and assisting in understanding code and I have been using the premium models like Claude 4, Gemini 2.5 pro without any prior issue previously. But I received this error message while using the Claude 4 model and I get switched to GPT 4.1 model.

The error message is as follows
You have exceeded your premium request allowance. We have automatically switched you to GPT-4.1 which is included with your plan. [Enable additional paid premium requests](vscode-file://vscode-app/Applications/Visual%20Studio%20Code.app/Contents/Resources/app/out/vs/code/electron-browser/workbench/workbench.html) to continue using premium models.

Is it meant to be like this because as far as I am aware, I wasn't informed of any limit for the education pack.

Hi,

I recently had a similar issue with GitHub Copilot, in fact I still do. It says:

You have reached your monthly limit for premium requests. Enable additional requests or switch to the default model. Limit resets on August 1, 2025.

I also got GitHub Pro via the GitHub Education platform. I was using it quite a lot but I suspect that they have recently lowered the number of tokens/requests we get. I am also still able to use GPT 4.1 but cannot access the "smarter" models.

Thank you for the reply. It seems that the number of not requests is not unlimited as you mentioned which means we have to wait until the month ends for the request amount to reset.

Hi @LakinduBabySoap,

Copilot PRO plan is limited to a maximum of 300 premium requests per month (additional at $0.04 USD each), regardless of whether it's a paid plan or the Student Developer Pack benefits plan.

Noted with thanks. I just want to make sure that this 300 limit request is only enforced with the premium models and not the standard models such as GPT-4.1 and GPT-4o.

so it says: 300 premium requests to use latest models, with the option to buy more

where is that buy more option? how do i get more ?

copilot itself says the limit is fixed so when i get to 300 the only option is to either wait a month sitting on my thumbs or upgrade to pro +
