i think some how this can help you some for that issue you faced ......... Subject: Unable to Add University Email Domain to GitHub Account (email.kntu.ac.ir) Hi everyone, I’m encountering an issue when trying to add my official university email address (xxx@email.kntu.ac.ir) to my GitHub account. Details: University: Khaje Nasir Toosi University of Technology GitHub currently accepts: mail.kntu.ac.ir Official student emails are issued under: email.kntu.ac.ir The email.kntu.ac.ir domain is being blocked by GitHub due to sanction restrictions, even though the university itself is not sanctioned. This mismatch means students like me can’t verify our academic status using the addresses provided by our institution. Request: Thank you in advance for your guidance and support. — [Your Name] |

Hi — I ran into the exact same issue at Khaje Nasir Toosi University. GitHub’s system currently matches mail.kntu.ac.ir but our official student emails are email.kntu.ac.ir, so the domain gets rejected. What worked / what to try: Try the alternative-doc path in the Student Pack verification — upload a dated student ID, enrollment letter, transcript, or class schedule instead of verifying via email. If the UI forces an email or you prefer the email route, ask your university IT to do one of these: Provide a short official letter (PDF) confirming email.kntu.ac.ir is the student domain, or Create a temporary alias/forward from mail.kntu.ac.ir → your email.kntu.ac.ir, or Contact GitHub Education on the university’s behalf to request whitelisting of email.kntu.ac.ir. If you open a GitHub Education support ticket, include: screenshot of the GitHub error, a student ID photo, and a uni page or letter showing the email.kntu.ac.ir pattern — this speeds things up. |

This is a known limitation and, unfortunately, not something that can be resolved directly by the user. GitHub’s academic verification system relies on an internal allowlist of email domains, and domains restricted due to sanctions cannot be manually added or overridden by users, even if the university itself is not sanctioned. If GitHub only accepts mail.kntu.ac.ir and not email.kntu.ac.ir, there is no way to verify academic status using the restricted domain through the standard GitHub Education flow. Re-linking accounts or retrying verification will not solve the issue. The recommended solution is to contact GitHub Support directly and open an Academic Verification or Education Support ticket. In the ticket, you should clearly explain that: Your university officially issues emails under email.kntu.ac.ir The accepted domain (mail.kntu.ac.ir) is not assigned to students The university itself is not sanctioned You can provide alternative proof of enrollment if required In some cases, GitHub Support may request manual verification documents (such as a student ID or enrollment letter) or suggest an alternative verification method. If manual verification is not possible, there is unfortunately no workaround until GitHub updates its domain allowlist or policy. This behavior is expected under GitHub’s current compliance rules and is not an account-specific issue. |

Hi everyone,
I’m facing an issue with adding my university email address (xxx@email.kntu.ac.ir) to my GitHub account. This issue concerns Khaje Nasir Toosi University of Technology.
Currently, GitHub accepts the domain mail.kntu.ac.ir, but the email addresses officially provided by the university to students are under the domain email.kntu.ac.ir. Unfortunately, GitHub does not allow adding this domain to accounts due to restrictions imposed by sanctions.
It’s important to note that the university itself is not subject to any sanctions—only the domain is restricted. This discrepancy creates challenges for students like me who are unable to verify their academic status.
I would greatly appreciate any guidance or assistance on how to resolve this issue.
Thank you for your support!
